Typhoon Utor kills 1 as it makes landfall in China

At least one person died as Typhoon Utor made landfall in south China\'s Guangdong province, triggering flooding and stranding fisherman at sea, officials said. The typhoon made landfall in China Wednesday after crossing the Philippines earlier in the week and leaving seven people dead there, the official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported Thursday. The cause of the single death in China was not reported. Several villages in Zhanjiang and Wuchuan were flooded after the Quehua River breached its banks Wednesday, Xinhua reported. The heavy rains also caused a section of railway track to collapse in Nanning, Guangxi\'s capital Wednesday, though services resumed gradually Thursday as repairs were made. Wind speeds in Guangdong province reached 94 mph, the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Observatory said. High winds caused a Hong Kong cargo ship to sink near the Wanshan Islands in the Pearl River estuary, Xinhua reported. In Zhanjiang, 240 stranded fisherman were rescued Wednesday by border guards and fishery administration workers in Dalong Bay though some still remained at sea, the Zhanjiang Daily reported.
