UAE takes part at Conference on Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The UAE is participating in 10th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which kicked off in New York.
The Ministry of Community Development commended the Advisory Council for People of Determination for its fruitful and distinctive participation, and delivering of the speech of the United Arab Emirates for the first time in Braille at the conference.
This reinforces the concept of full integration of this category in the society, and enabling them to play a real role in all fields, it added.
The Advisory Council is an effective step towards achieving the objectives of comprehensive sustainable development for all members of society, and ensuring the involvement of each individual in it. Its role is to support and provide advice, and contribute directly to the achievement of national policy objectives to empower all the people of determination.
The national policy regarding the people of determination launched by the Ministry of Community Development, is to build a barrier-free, and inclusive society that ensures empowerment and a decent living for this category of people and their families through devising policies and creating services that enable them to enjoy a high quality of living, access to social integration and effective participation, as well as promotion of equal opportunities to help carry out their duties.
Dr. Ahmed Al Omran, Chairman of the Advisory Council for the People of Determination, and head of the UAE delegation, said that the policies of empowering people of determination and their effective integration into society "are an integral part of the UAE's national strategies, including the UAE Vision 2021, Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, and Dubai Strategic Plan 2021."
He referred to the significant progress in implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and empowering them in all fields.
Al Omran said the launch of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, of initiative in April to call people with disabilities "People of Determination," highlights the abilities and valuable contributions of this group to the development of society, as well as a strong recognition to their will and determination.
