Ukraine\'s ex-minister hospitalised after clash with police

Ukraine's former interior minister and current opposition leader Yurliy Lutsenko has been hospitalised in intensive care after being beaten in clashes that erupted between pro-European Union demonstrators and club-wielding police. "Lutsenko is under intensive care in hospital," his press-secretary told Interfa, "he sustained head injuries and was rushed to hospital," he added. Some 11 demonstrators and around 20 law enforcers were injured during the clashes outside the court building in the Ukraine capital in the early hours of Saturday morning. Two protesters and one policeman – who had his leg broken - have been hospitalised, according to officials. Anti-government protesters have filled the streets of Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities since November, when President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign a trade deal with the European Union, opting instead for stronger ties with Russia.
