UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said that progress is being achieved in the peace talks "albeit at a relatively slow pace." "We call on all parties to work towards finding a comprehensive solution as soon as possible," he said in a press release by his office Saturday midnight after meeting the chief delegates of the three negotiating teams at Bayan Palace in Kuwait. "The issues discussed are complicated and it is important to address them responsibly. The delegations have important decisions to consider in this critical period of Yemen's history," Cheikh Ahmed stressed.
The UN Special Envoy also met with a number of senior politicians and diplomats who reiterated the international community's constant support to the UN-led peace process, (KUNA) news agency reported.
The discussions focused on proposals to bridge the gaps between the negotiating teams and the negotiators' respective visions regarding the security arrangements and the political process. The negotiators reached consensus on some issues, according to the statement.
