United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Turkey representative Carol Batchelor has said the number of Syrians sheltered in Turkey reached 300,000, 75 percent of whom are women and children. Batchelor told Turkish Anadolo News Agency (AA) correspondent that the number reached a “serious size” and they were grateful to Turkey for its bountiful services. She said several Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq live in scarce conditions but Turkey sets a positive example on hosting Syrians. Batchelor stated Turkey was good not only in policy but also in practice. Turkey set a good model by keeping the door open to Syrians as well as supporting Syrians sheltered in Turkey, she added. She said UNHRC supported Turkey with 30 million USD and continue to help. Batchelor said they also sent aid to Syrians in Latakia and Azzas provinces.
