UN eyes political solution in Syria, pledges help to Lebanon

UN humanitarian aid chief Valerie Amos pledged Tuesday to continue working with the international community to \"reach a political solution\" to the Syrian conflict and also showed concerns over the situation in neighboring Lebanon. Amos, accompanied by UN Development Program\'s representative to Lebanon, Robert Watkins, met with Lebanese Prime Minister- designate Tammam Salam, and their talks focused on the condition of the Syrian refugees in the country. \"I discussed with Salam the current juncture in Lebanon, which is hosting nearly tens of thousands of Syrians added to those already living here,\" Amos said. \"We tackled means to help the Lebanese families receiving the displaced and we underlined the necessity of economic stability in the country,\" said the UN official, who also confirmed that the UN will not spare any effort to support Syrians both inside and outside their unrest-ravaged country.
