The Joint Mission of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the United Nations announced on Monday that a further shipment of Syrian chemical weapon materials was loaded in Latakia port onto Danish and Norwegian cargo vessels for onward transportation. The vessels were accompanied by a naval escort provided by the People's Republic of China, Denmark, Norway and the Russian Federation. The Mission looks forward to Syria's continuing efforts to complete the removal of its chemical weapons materials in a "safe, secure and timely manner. " Their destruction is expected to be completed by June this year. In a related matter, it has been reported that a U.S. cargo ship, loaded with sophisticated equipment, is heading for the Mediterranean Sea on Monday to destroy dozens of containers of the chemical weapons materials.
