The UN refugee agency said Saturday it registered around 13,000 new Syrian refugees in Lebanon to raise their number to 890,000. Up to 12,900 Syrian refugees have been registered last week, the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) said in its weekly report. The Syrian refugees, it added, were distributed in different parts of Lebanon, and were receiving security, health, social and educational services. Kuwaiti charitable societies have been providing humanitarian assistance for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. Kuwait hosted the second donors conference for the Syrian refugees on January 15, which resulted in pledges totalling some USD 2.4 billion.
