
The United Nations General Assembly held on Thursday a special session on the problem of narcotics with the participation of a large number of heads of state and senior officials.
UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson expressed appreciation for Egypt's Ambassador to Austria and its permanent delegate to international organizations Khaled Shamaa for leading preparations for this special session.
The UNGA unanimously approved at the start of the session a document featuring an integrated strategy for combating the problem of drugs in the world for the coming three years.
For three days, the session will discuss the different aspects of the problem of drugs as well as its health, social and economic reprecussions.
