UN urges better security, services to help displaced in Sudan\'s Darfur

A UN official on Monday called for improved security and services to help speed up the voluntary return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes in Sudan\'s Darfur region.Mohammed Younis, deputy chief of UN-African Union Mission in Darfur, told a conference here on IDPs and refugees that poor security and lack of services hamper the efforts of the Sudanese government and its partners to accelerate the return of the internally displaced to their homes.He acknowledged that there used to be a voluntary return, but said that the worsening security forced many to return to camps.Those present at the conference included Sudanese government officials, diplomats, representatives of donors and IDPs and refugees.The UN says around 1.4 million Darfurians live in IDP camps inside the Darfur region and refugee camps in neighboring Chad.
