UNHRC: 94,000 Syrians displaced in Lebanon

The UN High Commissioner for Rfugees (UNHRC) said Tuesday that there are around 94,000 displaced Syrians who are currently receiving protection and assistance in Lebanon through the efforts made by the Lebanese government, the UN and non-governmental groups. The UNHRC weekly report said, out of the aforementioned number of displaced Syrians, 64,836 people are registered with the refugee agency, while 30,000 other individuals have contacted the UNHRC for registration. It added that more than 4,000 displaced Syrians were registered this week at UNHRC\'s offices in North Lebanon\'s Tripoli, the Beqaa town of Arsal and Beirut. The UNHCR said most of the Syrians who were registered this week entered Lebanon \"via unofficial border crossings,\" as the official ones located near the Syrian town of Jousiyeh have been closed for three months. The report showed that 35,474 Syrians are present in North Lebanon, 27,320 in Beqaa Valley and 1,797 people in Beirut. It added that most of the displaced are originating from Syria\' s Homs, Hama, Idlib, Aleppo and Damascus.
