The UN Interim Force in Lebanon held a tripartite meeting at the Ras al-Naqoura crossing along the border with senior officials from the Lebanese Army and the Israel army Wednesday. UNIFIL force commander Maj. Gen. Paolo Serra held the meeting, which covered a variety of issue related to U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, including the marking of the Blue Line, recent violations and the Israeli withdrawal from northern Ghajar, a UNIFIL statement said. After the meeting, Serra said both parties resolved to maintain calm and to uphold the resolution. “It was a constructive meeting. Both parties expressed their full support and commitment to working together with UNIFIL for the implementation of the relevant provisions of Resolution 1701, to maintain calm in the area and to prevent incidents and tension along the Blue Line. In this context they have also expressed interest in speeding up the marking of the Blue Line,” Serra said. The UNIFIL chief also said he was satisfied with the general level of quiet in the force’s area of operations, the press release said. From dailystar
