\'United States playing dirty tricks against Bahraini people\'

Fresh clashes have erupted between the Saudi-backed Bahraini regime forces and anti-government protesters in the Persian Gulf country as the popular uprising continues in the Arab state. This comes as the Bahraini regime also said it will go ahead with the prosecution of 20 medics over their treatment of wounded anti-government protesters during last year’s demonstrations. The prosecutions are retrials in a civil court. A military court in late September handed lengthy jail terms of up to 15 years to the 20 doctors and nurses for treating anti-government protesters and ‘trying to overthrow the government.’ Press TV has conducted an interview with Kamel Wazni, political analyst, to share his opinion on this issue. The following is a transcript of the interview: Press TV: Despite the deadly crackdown on the protest movement it has not lost its momentum. What has kept it alive this long in your opinion? Wazni: Well obviously there is a legitimate cause by the Bahraini and the Bahraini are determined to get their freedom and they will do everything in their means to get that across. There is a leadership emerging in Bahrain determined no matter what the sacrifice to end the discrimination and to end the brutal crackdown by the Bahraini government against its own people. People of Bahrain do not want to see discrimination, do not want to see imprisonment without due process, d not want to see repression by the Bahraini and by the Saudi forces which has invaded Bahrain to carry their own agenda. The Bahrainis [are] looking for a future where every Bahraini will be equal on their rights and their duties and not to be single out because they are belonging to certain beliefs. We have a case of obvious discrimination in Bahrain carried by the royal family, backed by the Saudi government and covered by the American administration. I think the Bahraini, they took the long road and they know what is the cost, but the freedom will shine one day over Bahrain and this torture of the Bahraini royal family will not continue forever. Justice will prevail and that justice is around the corner. Press TV: Right. Now the military trial and now the retrial in a civilian court of the medics has not drawn any reaction from countries like the US that thought themselves as defenders of human rights. Is that wholly unexpected? Wazni: We should not be surprised by the position of the United States because this regime is a puppet of the United States. We know that the Fifth Fleet actually has the largest base in Bahrain and it has coordinated every effort with the Bahraini government. We know when Filtman came; when the uprising started he gave the Bahrainis with the Saudis the order to crackdown against the peaceful demonstrators so the Americans are in actual coordination in their crackdown against the Bahraini people. But despite of that I think the Bahraini people know what they have to do and they know that the struggle for freedom is not smooth but it is going to be difficult that eventually they will reach their destiny. I think the Americans have been playing dirty when it comes to democracy in Bahrain. They actually twist the facts to serve their cause and their interest and I think we have to look at a situation where not only the American, the Western world who have been like trying to talk about changes in the Middle East but only will affect the changes that it serves their interest. There was a study just released couple days by the congressional research service spoke very clearly the Americans are interested in two things- Israel and the interest of Israel and the second thing has to do with the flow of oil from the Persian Gulf. The people of Bahrain they are not on the agenda of the American but the royal family actually allow the American to continue their military base and they give the protection for America to continue carry its oil and natural gas from the Persian Gulf.
