UNSC strongly condemns terrorist attack in Mogadishu

The Security Council late Tuesday \"condemned in the strongest terms\" the terrorist attack that occurred yesterday in Mogadishu, Somalia, which resulted in the death and injury of many innocent civilians.In a statement to the press, Council President U.Joy Ogwu of Nigeria said the Council members \"reiterated their condemnation of all acts of violence and incitement to violence against civilians, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Transitional Federal Government.They reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is \"criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed,\" and the need to combat by all means, in accordance with the UN Charter, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.They also reiterated their full support to the Transitional Federal Government in its efforts to achieve peace, security and reconciliation through the Djibouti Peace Process, and the work of AMISOM.The attack by Al-Qaida-backed militants killed over 70 people and injured many more, including, reportedly, students who were in the Education Ministry applying for scholarships offered by the Turkish Government.
