
Chargé d'affaires at the U.S. embassy to Yemen Karen Sasahara has said that the National Dialogue Conference’s (NDC) success is a victory for the Yemenis’ will.In a press conference held Monday in Sana’a, Sasahara commended the struggles of Yemenis to reach consensus, singling out that this success of NDC will achieve the Yemenis’ aspirations.She pointed out that Yemenis managed to overcome their challenges within the past ten months, stressing that the success of NDC is the first step to build up the new Yemeni state.She urged Yemenis to start working to seriously implement the NDC’s outcomes and develop them into a constitution and laws.The US diplomat citied that the UN envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar will present on Tuesday his report on Yemen’s situation to the UN Security Council, revealing that it will be narrowly different from the previous ones and that it will include details on NDC.According to Sasahara, Yemenis accomplished great successes when comparing their experience of dialogue with other states that were swept by the Arab Spring.She spelt out that some parties seek to impede the NDC’s outcomes and achieve personal interests, stressing that the Yemeni people and the international community reject any attempts to challenge these outcomes.“The Group Ten sponsoring the GCC-brokered initiative and the Five Permanent UN Security Council States will continue their support to Yemen and outcomes of NDC” Sasahara added.She said that the Houthis must be more responsible and their visions and slogans should be more reasonable if they intend to take part in the government.As for the case of Yemenis detained in Guantanamo bay, the US diplomat affirmed that the US President Barrack Obama wants to close down the detention, indicating that the ways of returning them to their home are currently being reviewed.She also reiterated that the international donors will continue providing assistance to Yemen, hinting that they ask the government to offer tangible proposals which Yemenis will take advantages of.The US diplomat cited that the GCC states should support Yemen in order to overcome its challenges and difficulties, clarifying that all Yemen’s neighboring states will be affected by what is happening in Yemen.
