The United States late Sunday expressed condolences to the people of Turkey following a deadly earthquake. \"I join President Obama and send my deepest condolences to the people of Turkey in the wake of today\'s earthquake. My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those killed and injured. The United States stands ready to assist in the effort to rescue survivors and we are committed to the people of Turkey as they recover and rebuild,\" US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a statement. A magnitude-7.2 earthquake struck eastern Turkey, killing at least 138 people as buildings pancaked and crumpled into rubble. The death toll was expected to rise as rescuers sifted through the rubble and reached outlying villages.
