The Joint Plan of Action, which was negotiated by the P5+1 (the US, the UK, France, Russia and China, plus Germany), the European Union (EU) and Iran over the latter's nuclear program is to be implemented on Tuesday. The International Atomic Energy Agency submitted a report on Iran's current nuclear activities and the steps it has taken to fulfill its initial commitments under the Joint Plan of Action this morning, said Jen Psaki, spokesperson for the US Department of State.According to the information of the IAEA's report and technical briefing, the US and the EU have determined that Iran has taken the steps it committed to doing on the first day of implementation regarding its nuclear program, she added. As a result of Iran's actions, both the US and the EU will also begin implementing the limited sanctions relief, noted Psaki. The US will take a variety of steps, including the issuance of the necessary statutory waivers, which have been approved by Secretary Kerry and will be notified to Congress today, as well as the guidance on the non-enforcement of the elements of the Executive Orders associated with the sanctions requiring relief. The US Department of State will also be releasing specific guidance documents to explain the scope and limitations of the relief undertaken today, she said.Psaki noted that Iran has begun to take concrete and verifiable steps to halt its nuclear program, which are significant in the US' efforts to achieve a diplomatic solution to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. "The coming negotiation to reach a comprehensive agreement that addresses all of the international community's concerns will be even more complex, and we go into it clear-eyed about the difficulties ahead," she stressed."Today's events have made clear that we have an unprecedented opportunity to see if we can resolve this most pressing national security concern peacefully... That remains our goal, and that is our challenge ahead," Psaki concluded.
