US President Barack Obama congratulated on Monday over the phone, Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali, reaffirming the support of the United States to democratic transition in Tunisia. The White House said, in a communiqué reported by French AFP news agency, that "President Obama congratulated Tunisia on its transition which provides a historical chance for all Tunisians to get further political and economic opportunities," adding "Obama insisted on the sincere friendship and support of the United States to Tunisians, at a time when they are stepping into this new era in the history of their country."
