Republican Senator John McCain, one of the most active critics of Russia in the US Congress, will author a column for the Russian Communist daily, Pravda. McCain’s spokesman Brian Rogers said on Friday the idea was prompted by last Thursday’s article by Russian President Vladimir Putin in The New York Times. Rodgers did not disclose any details of the negotiations on that score, but, as it has turned out, Pravda, which in the Soviet era was the country’s number one official newspaper, had sent the request to Senator McCain a long while ago. At a certain point Pravda took note of McCain’s criticism of the freedom of speech in Russia and offered its pages to him to challenge his opinion.
