An American soldier serving with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has been shot dead in eastern Afghanistan, Press TV reports. The solider was shot and killed on Monday at a checkpoint in Paktika province, by a man believed to be a member of the local Afghan police. The ISAF confirmed the death of its service member but did not provide any information on the fate of the attacker. The assault was the second shooting incident of the day in which Afghan security forces killed their international partners in a so-called "green on blue" attack. Earlier in the day, two British soldiers were gunned down by an Afghan soldier in front of the main gate of a US-run base in Lashkar Gah city in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province. Another British soldier was also severely wounded in the attack. The attacker was shot dead by foreign forces, according to Britain and ISAF officials. No group has claimed responsibility for either attack. Monday's deaths brought the number of ISAF troops killed by Afghan security personnel this year to 16.
