 Nguyen Xuan Phuc was elected by the Vietnamese parliament on Thursday as the country's new prime minister.

Phuc was chosen to replace Nguyen Tan Dung, who was relieved from the duty of Vietnamese prime minister on Wednesday.

Born on July 20, 1954, in central Quang Nam province, Phuc holds a bachelor degree in economics. He was a member of the 10th (2006) and 11th of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee (CPVCC) as well as a member of the 12th CPVCC.

Phuc, who became a member of the 11th CPVCC Politburo in 2011, is a member of the 12th CPVCC Politburo.

He was a deputy to the 11th NA of Vietnam and the outgoing 13th NA.

From 1973 to 1978, Phuc studied at Hanoi National Economics University.

During the 1978-1979 period, he worked as an officer in central Quang Nam-Da Nang economic management board.

From 1980 to 1993, Phuc acted as a specialist, deputy office head and then office head of Quang Nam-Da Nang People's Committee, as well as secretary of Quang Nam-Da Nang People's Committee Office Party Committee.

From 1997 to 2001, Phuc was a standing member of provincial Party Committee. Phuc served as vice chairman, and permanent vice chairman of Quang Nam People's Committee, head of Quang Nam industrial parks management board. He also acted as president of Union of Quang Nam Provincial Cooperatives.

During 2004-2006 period, Phuc was deputy secretary of Quang Nam provincial party committee and chairman of Quang Nam People's Committee (2004-2009). He also acted as president of Quang Nam provincial Union of Science and Technology, member of the 11th NA Committee for Economic and Budgetary Affairs.

From March 2006 to May 2006, Phuc served as Vietnam's government deputy inspector general.

In 2011, Phuc was elected as a member of the 11th CPVCC and 11th CPVCC Politburo and deputy to the 13th NA.

Phuc had worked as deputy prime minister since August 2011.
