Violence in Myanmar kills 11 Rohingya Muslims

Eleven Rohingya Muslims were killed in acts of violence carried out by extreme Buddhists in the Arakan province west of Myanmar, said a report here Tuesday. The report by the Council of Rohingya Scholars in Malaysia said that the number of death has reached 650 since last June, adding that around 12,000 Rohingyas were reported missing while 80,000 Muslims were displaced due to the violence. The Council called for the end of violence and sabotage against Rohingyas Muslims, noting that the government of Myanmar should be taking swift steps to end the crisis. A proposed solution to the situation is based on reinstating the nationalities of the Rohingyas via reforming or removing the 1982-law that to led to the denationalization of this sect, said the report by the council. The council added that the international community should work on measures to bring the global attention to the crisis occurring in Myanmar. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said the report, should be playing an integral role in ending the violence against the Rohingyas through pressuring Myanmar, a member of the association, to resolve the matter.
