The White House has criticized the Syrian regime's violence and recent escalating attacks against its people. White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a press briefing on Thursday the situation there is critical and resulting in "the tragic and unnecessary deaths of civilians". He blamed Syria's Al Assad upon his comments on Wednesday that Syria is in a state of war, deeming him fully responsible for the dire situation there. "His observation about the situation in Syria is all the more profound because he created it," Carney said. He also condemned Wednesday's attack on Syria's pro government TV station (Al Ekhbariya), saying "We condemn all acts of violence, including those targeting pro-regime elements, and we call on all parties to cease acts of hostility, this is in reference to your observation about the storming of a pro-Assad TV station."
