A Yemeni military delegation headed by Deputy Interior Minister Ali Lakhsha met on Thursday with USA Defense Secretary Assistant for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict Michael Sheehan at the Pentagon, Washington DC. During the meeting, Lakhsha and Sheehan reviewed the security and military cooperation relations between the two countries\' armies, especially in areas of training, armament, experiences exchange, counterterrorism and borders and territorial waters protection. They further reviewed a number of issues, procedures and tasks pertaining to the restructuring stages of the armed and security forces, in addition to the multiple challenges facing the defense and interior ministries in the transitional stage. The US military aid program devoted to Yemen, including modern equipment and training programs and technical support were also touched upon in the meeting. Sheehan reiterated the American support to the Yemeni government and people in order to encounter the common challenges and succeed the democratic transition, welcoming the recent decisions and actions for the restructuring of the armed forces.
