Yemeni transport minister meets in London secretary general of IMO

Transport Minister Waed Batheeb met in British capital, London, with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO),Mr. Koji Sekimizu. The meeting touched on Yemen's efforts in the fight against piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Aden and western Indian Ocean off the Somali coast through Sana'a Regional Center for the exchange of information about maritime piracy within the international and regional efforts and the efforts of international organizations, including the IMO. The meeting also dealt with Yemen’s contributions to secure international maritime traffic in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, which contributed to the lack of incidents of piracy in the region. In the meeting, the two sides discussed the IMO’s support to the regional efforts and the preparation for the meetings of the Member States of the Djibouti Code of Conduct in February 2014, and the ministerial meeting of member states in the Code in May 2014. The Transport Minister said that his visit to the United Kingdom aimed to participate in the meetings of the General Assembly of the IMO, and to follow up the outputs of Abu Dhabi meeting on the Sana’a Regional Center for the exchange of information about maritime piracy.
