The Zayed Humanitarian Forum began yesterday in Tanzania in conjunction with the launch of the first phase of the UAE-Tanzanian Mobile Hospital, which provides diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive service in several areas of Tanzania, as part of the UAE's humanitarian missions in the country.
The forum, which was planned by the Zayed Giving Initiative, the Saudi-German hospital and the Dar Al Ber Society, reviewed the means of promoting the culture of volunteer work and youth empowerment, and also encouraged government and private institutions to adopt initiatives to provide better health and education services to the underprivileged.
A number of innovative initiatives for Tanzania were launched during the forum; most notably the project for early disease detection, mobile clinics and hospitals, a project to develop the skills of Tanzanian medics, and a project to enhance the private sector's adoption of sustainable humanitarian programmes.
The forum also boosted partnership between voluntary organisations in the UAE and Tanzania in medical aid work and exchange of humanitarian development expertise.
Dr. Adel Shamri, CEO of Zayed Giving Initiative, in his opening speech at the forum, said, "The UAE has long been a beacon for giving on an Arab, Islamic and international level. The UAE extends a helping hand to all people in need, regardless of geography, religion, ethnicity or culture."
He added that, "The UAE humanitarian role is deeply-rooted in the values instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and is continued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who follow his humanitarian path."
