Kabul - XINHUA
At least six policemen were killed Wednesday in a suicide bombing on the country's Interior Ministry, the ministry confirmed in a statement. "One suicide bomber wearing military uniform tried to enter along side of the visitors to the ministry of interior building at around 2:30 p.m. (local time). The attacker detonated his explosive jacket at the entrance after being identified. Six Afghan National Police (ANP) were martyred as a result of the blast," the ministry said in the statement. The suicide bomber was also killed on the spot. The brief statement did not disclose if any person sustain injury in the attack which took place in central Kabul. It is said that several people were lined up for access when the blast occurred. Earlier reports said at least four people sustained injuries. The incident came as the country is preparing for the presidential and provincial councils elections slated for Saturday. The Taliban insurgent group fighting the government has vowed to disrupt the election process. More than 20 million eligible Afghans will vote for the new president and new provincial assembly members for the next five years, according to the Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials.
