London - Arabstoday

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott claims Carlos Tevez is "unplayable" when he produces the form that destroyed Barnsley last weekend. Tevez put aside his latest off-field problems - he was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified - to fire a hat-trick past the hapless Championship side in a 5-0 FA Cup rout at the Etihad Stadium. It was a performance for Lescott that rekindled memories of the excitement the Argentinian brought to the club when he switched from Manchester United in a controversial move in 2009. Tevez then became embroiled in a lengthy dispute with City last season but that seems long forgotten now with the 29-year-old, who has scored in four successive games, back to his best. Lescott said: "His performance doesn't surprise me, to be honest. He has been our most consistent player since I joined the club. "In his first two years he carried the team on his back. We won a lot of games by one goal, and that was down to Carlos - when he plays like that he is unplayable." City's victory took them through to the semi-finals of the cup and, although they will have to play rivals United or Chelsea for a place in the final, it is their most obvious route to silverware. Having fallen 12 points behind United with just 10 games remaining in the Premier League, their chances of retaining their title look remote. Hunt for silverware Even though qualification for the UEFA Champions League has become an essential requirement for the club, Lescott's chief aim is to get his hands on a trophy. The 30-year-old said: "Progression is the key. We'd love to win the league, and if that is not to be, the next best thing for us is the FA Cup, so we are determined to win that. "If we can win another trophy, then picking up three in the four years I have been here would be delightful. It's great to play in the Champions League, and we have done that in the last couple of years, but to win trophies is what the game is about. "You don't look back at your career and say, 'I've played three years in the Champions League'. You say, 'I won two FA Cups and a Premier League medal'. "It's always nice to get in the Champions League. It's not a given this season, but with the level of professionalism and consistency at the club we expect to get there every year. So we won't take our foot off the pedal in the league, but we are determined to win this cup." Lescott made his first start in a month against the Tykes having apparently fallen behind youngster Matija Nastasic in the City pecking order this season. Lescott praises Toure He played alongside Kolo Toure who, in the absence of injured captain Vincent Kompany, has enjoyed a return to prominence in recent weeks. That has raised the possibility the Ivorian, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign, could be offered a new deal. Lescott, whose own future has been the subject of speculation, would be happy to see him stay. He said: "He is the ultimate professional. He wears his heart on his sleeve, comes in every day and gets on with his work. He wasn't playing in the earlier part of this season but he hasn't moaned or complained - he just gets on with his work. "If it has to be that Kolo isn't here next year, I wish him all the best. He is a great friend to me. He has a lot to offer at this level - over the last few weeks in the team he hasn't looked out of place. "He is composed on the ball and was captain of Arsenal for a number of years, so he is a leader as well." Source : FIFA
