11 Mursi supporters sentenced up to 88 years

The Upper Egypt court sentenced 11 alleged supporters of ousted President Mohammed Mursi to prison terms ranging from 57 to 88 years. Five of the convicted people were tried in absentia. The charges were linked to demonstrations in the town of Samallout, Western Egypt, triggered by the violent crackdown on pro-Mursi sit-ins in Cairo in August 2013, AFP reported. In March, the same court issued death sentences to 529 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood.
