Two Egyptian pilgrims were killed and 28 others wounded in the collapse of a construction crane at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, said Egypt's Assistant Interior Minister and executive head of the hajj mission Sayed Maher.
Maher, who traveled to Saudi Arabia on Saturday to inquire after the health of the wounded Egyptian pilgrims, told MENA that two deaths are not members of the hajj mission.
The first one was an engineer who worked for the Arab Contractors Company branch in Madina and the second was for a woman who was on a visit to Mecca, he added.
He added that ten of the wounded pilgrims have checked out of hospital while the others are still under medical observation.
Saudi officials said strong winds and heavy rains were behind the crane’s collapse that left 107 dead and an estimated 238 injured.
