
At least 25 people were killed in a car bomb attack at a checkpoint near the entrance of the Shia neighborhood of Kadhimiya in Baghdad on Tuesday, said Russian-based television network, Russia Today.
According to Iraqi officials, a suicider drove a bomb car to the checkpoint killing at least 25 people, including a member of Iraqi parliament.
Police and medics said the slain MP was Ahmed al-Khafaji, a member of the Shi'ite Badr political party and a former deputy interior minister.
Five police officers were also among the dead. Three other people were killed in a separate roadside blast in a mixed neighborhood in Northern Baghdad.
