Twenty eight members of Houthis and pro-Saleh forces were killed and 41 others wounded in fierce clashes with the popular resistance forces on the outskirts of Taiz on Wednesday.
Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has declared Taiz a disaster area because of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions as a result of ongoing confrontations between army forces backed by popular resistance and Houthis and pro-Saleh forces.
Yemen descended into chaos last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa and other provinces, prompting Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies to launch a massive air campaign against the Shia group.
Last month, Yemeni Prime Minister Khaled Bahah said that pro-Hadi forces – backed by Saudi-led air power – had managed to retake Aden from the Houthis.
