Fierce fighting renewed between the Lebanese army and gunmen in the northern city of Tripoli on Sunday, claiming four lives in uniform and wounding nearly a dozen of others.
The victims fell when gunmen ambushed two military vehicles in Bahnin village, Al-Minie district, shortly after the army recaptured some locations in the district formerly controlled by the gunmen, according to local media reports.
Yesterday the army said six soldiers and officers were killed in the military operation in the previous two days.
The deteriorating security forces businesses and shops in the city as well as the public utilities to close down, a resident of the city told KUNA.
"Tripoli is suffering from serious power and water shortage and its residents, particularly women and children, panic from the frequent sounds of gunfire," the source said.
Though the army deployed large numbers of troops in the city to restore calm, passersby and schoolchildren are afraid of possible sniper fire, the source added.
