Unrest in Yemen
Sanaa - Arab Today

Eight militias of Houthis and toppled president Ali Abdallah Saleh were killed and 20 others injured while attacking a neighborhood in the south-western Yemeni city of Taiz.

Forces loyal to exiled President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi in Taiz forced the militas to withdraw from Bararah district.

Medical sources told the Yemeni news agency that three of the resistance forces were killed and others were injured while repelling the militias' attack.

A total of 42 militias were killed in Taiz battles, the sources said.

On Wednesday, Arab coalition fighter jets shelled a military post of the militias, leaving behind a number of the militias killed and injured.

Houthi militias are fanned out on the outskirts of the city and shell residential areas by heavy weapons, leaving behind a large number of casualties and causing heavy structural damage.

Taiz is suffering from a blackout and lack of medical services foodstuffs.

For some months, Taiz has been the scene of heavy fighting between pro-Hadi forces and those allied to the Houthi rebel movement. Hundreds of combatants and civilians have been killed.

Houthis, a Shi'ite Muslim group, took control of Yemen's capital Sanaa last September. Arab countries intervened in the conflict in March to halt a Houthi advance into the south which caused Hadi to flee to Riyadh from his refuge in the southern port of Aden.
