
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo on Tuesday to take part in the opening ceremony of the New Suez Canal, slated for Thursday.
Abbas will also participate in a meeting of the Arab Peace Initiative Committee at the level of foreign ministers.
During the visit, he will meet with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Foreign Minister Sameh Shouky and Arab League's Secretary-General Nabil El Araby to discuss the Middle East peace process and the recent developments on the Palestinian arena.
The New Suez Canal project, to be opened on Thursday, was achieved within only one year in a third of the originally estimated time.
