
Fahmi al Zarir, the deputy secretary of Fatah's Revolutionary Council, said recent statements by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem quashed all statements, Israeli expectations and rumors on the collapse of the PA.
In statements to MENA correspondent on Saturday, Zarir said Abbas was keen to underline that the PA is one of the gains of the Palestinians' struggle and will never collapse.
He said Israeli statements on the collapse of the PA is "nonsense" and are just an attempt to destroy the Palestinians morale.
"Hamas leaderships' comments on Abbas' address represent Hamas' constant stance backing schism," he said.
Hamas seeks to serve its interests to maintain its control on the Gaza Strip, he said, adding that Hamas is serving foreign agendas not representing the Palestinians.
He added that this shows that Hamas is not ready for elections.
He said "national unity is not a request, it is an exigency for the Palestinians." So that, Fatah and other national Palestinian factions seeking national unity have no choice other than realizing this unity, whatever the sacrifices are.
He highlighted the importance of unity to end the Israeli occupation and attain the Palestinian aspirations of establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The only way is to end sedition, close ranks through a unity government and hold elections, he expounded, stressing Fatah's preparedness for the elections and readiness for allowing Arab and Islamic monitoring on the elections across the Palestinian territories.
He noted that Hamas has refused holding municipal elections in the Gaza Strip, despite Fatah's preparedness for holding these elections in the West Bank.
He said Hamas with its parallel government to the PA government has hampered the PA government reconstruction work in the Gaza Strip in violation of the Palestinian law.
Zarir noted that Abbas has called for an international conference after tension and violations against defenseless Palestinians heightened.
He said the Palestinians want genuine solutions not just negotiations, they want to realize their dream of ending the Israeli occupation and establishing a Palestinian state with al Quds al Sharif as its capital.
He underlined that the world fight against terror will be effective only after ending the Israeli occupation.
