
On Tuesday President Mahmoud Abbas proposed that Israel should carry out a three-year withdrawal of troops from the Palestinian territories that they occupy, as part of a future peace agreement.“I am saying that clearly: whoever proposes 10 or 15 years for a transition period does not want to withdraw,” Abbas said. “We say that a transitional period not exceed three years, during which Israel can withdraw gradually.”Israeli officials have however called a presence of troops vital for the countries security and some have even advocated for a 40 year withdrawal period.The Palestinians however, according to Abbas, are willing to accept the presence of such troops if they from a third party such NATO, which would then take the Israeli troops place after a withdrawal.The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a future Palestine to be a demilitarized nation, whilst extensive security should be put in place for the Israeli nation Euronews report.
