
Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmad el-Tayeb has called on the Egyptians to support the Suez Canal Project.
During a visit to the project on Sunday, Tayeb said the New Suez Canal was a challenge to the Egyptians that would show the strength, steadfastness and will of the Egyptians.
He was received upon his arrival at the scene by Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish and watched a documentary on the history of the Canal until the New Suez Canal project was initiated.
Tayeb met workers at the project and encouraged them to exert their utmost effort for the development of their home country.
The Grand Imam was accompanied during the visit by a host of the ulema topped by Deputy of Al Azhar Abbas Shouman and Acting President of Al-Azhar University Mohamad Abdel-Shafi.
