
President of the Arab Parliament Ahmad Al-Jarawan commended here on Sunday the role by Association of Senates, Shoora and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA) in promoting cooperation among Arab and African parliaments and exchanging common values of democracy and human rights.
In his inaugural speech at a conference on promoting cooperation relations among female MPS in Africa and Arab World, Al-Jarawan said that cooperation contributes to maintaining security and peace in Africa and Arab World.
Cooperation also helps in achieving development, combating poverty and starvation and promoting roles played by women in a comprehensive development in their countries, he noted.
Al-Jarawan referred that the Arab Parliament is highly appreciating the roles by Arab women in their parliaments as it believes that women have a significant part in the political development inside their societies.
He called for eliminating obstacles to enable women to get top posts according to efficiency without discrimination and for issuing a detailed annual report on positions of Arab women and legislations relating to their rights.
For his part, Secretary General of ASSECAA Abdulwasea Yusuf underlined the importance of the conference in enhancing relations between the two sides and exchanging expertise among Arab and African females MPS.
Parliaments from Bahrain, Sudan, Yemen, Algeria, Egypt, Gabon, South Africa, South Sudan, Rwanda, Ethiopia and the Arab Parliament as well as a number of Arab and African studies centers are taking part in the conference.
