
The deceased Chairman of the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) and prominent business man Mohammad Abdulrahman Al-Bahar was buried Friday morning, after a long life of achievements and charity work.
Al-Bahar who passed away on Thursday, was born in 1919 in a commerce-specialized family. After completing his academic studies, the Chairman put his efforts into public services, later joining the Municipal Council which was headed by His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Moreover, Al-Bahar was a member of the health council, headed by Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah then. Afterwards, the Chairman joined the construction council which played an important role in building the modern Kuwait in the mid-20th century.
He was also the founder of Al-Bahar Group, a well-known chain of companies in Kuwait and the GCC countries. Al-Bahar who was appointed as Chairman of the Board of NBK in 1993, also played a role in establishing companies the likes of Al-Ahleia Insurance Company, Kuwait Pipe Industries and Oil Services Company (KPIOS) and Kuwait National Cinema Company (KNCC).
Furthermore, Al-Bahar was a founding member of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he became the Deputy Chairman in 1996.
The Chairman was active in the field of charity, building mosques in Kuwait as well as in other countries, while also funding many other charity projects. He had also put his efforts into health services, opening Al-Bahar Ophthalmology Center, providing treatment and surgery to thousands of people.
