Algerian FM Ramtane Lamamra
Algiers - APS

Algeria will remain a "reliable partner, involved in the renewed commitment" of the international community to strengthening multilateralism and the emergence of an inclusive democratic global governance to improve the living conditions of the poorest said Sunday in Algiers, Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra.
"Algeria will remain a reliable partner in part the renewed commitment of the international community to strengthening of multilateralism, the emergence of an inclusive democratic global governance and the improvement of living conditions of the poorest through investing in the development and consequently in the international peace and security," Lamamra stressed on the occasion of the celebration of the World Day of the UN Day in Algeria.
In this regard, added Lamamra, the Algiers Declaration in which culminated the 17th Ministerial Conference of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, hosted by Algeria in May 2014, was a "contribution to the common goal of meeting the challenges of poverty, development, environmental protection, respect for human rights, threats of terrorism and the risks associated with weapons of mass destruction."
Lamamra noted that Algeria was working with its partners, part of the responsibilities it assumes within the groups in which it is a member, to create platforms of consensus on the objectives of sustainable development, the revitalization of UN General Assembly and the Security Council reform.
Besides, the Foreign minister stated the consensus of the designation of Algeria to chair the 9th Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) was "a mark of trust and a distinction which we appreciate."
He also noted this day was an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of Algeria to the UN’s "key" role in the multilateral system as an irreplaceable forum of “reconciliation and harmonization of perceptions, visions and ambitions of the member states, which will to a fairly shared prosperity ".
"There is no doubt that the persistence of uncertainties in the global economy and geopolitics of international relations make the UN guarding more than ever its vocation as a crucible of a qualitatively better future for all," Lamamra affirmed.
Lamamra said the UN was "the sum of the strengths and weaknesses" of its member states, noting that "its failures and imperfections are known, but the UN can boast about achievements and significant progress that mark its action."
"On the eve of the celebration of its 70th anniversary in 2015, it is our responsibility to work to strengthen its key role against many abuses that threaten humanity, including the chaos terrorist groups want to provoke, drugs trafficking networks and organized crime, which are mutually supportive,” the Algerian FM added.
For Lamamra, Algeria supports the rule of law, justice, dialogue and cooperation to settle conflicts.
"Driven by these principles, Algeria has positively responded to the request of two Malian parties to facilitate the conclusion of an inter-Malian inclusive peace agreement whose third round has resumed in Algiers. In turn, the Libyan parties also asked Algeria to facilitate dialogue and national reconciliation leading to a successful outcome for the multidimensional crisis this brotherly and neighbor country witnesses," he further emphasized.
He added that Algeria expressed its "profound" gratitude to the UN for giving a global impact to its liberation struggle against colonialism and for having solemnly welcomed, on 8 November 1962, Algeria as a sovereign state within the international community.
Lamamra assured, moreover, the brothers of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, of the "active" solidarity of Algeria which was "rapidly" expressed by a financial contribution to help countries overcome the "terrible" epidemic of Ebola virus.
He paid tribute to the representatives of the High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Food Programme for humanitarian assistance in the Saharawi refugee camps, adding: "I seize this opportunity to urge our partners to maintain the level of aid for these refugees to help them overcome their difficult living conditions."
