
One person (55) was killed and 70 others injured Wednesday morning in the derailment of an 8-hour electric train linking Algiers to Thenia, about 150 m of Hussein-Dey station, according to a final toll of the Civil Protection.
A pervious toll of the same services indicated that a person (woman) was killed and 63 were injured, including at least five in critical condition.
According to the “final toll (of this accident) one person was killed and 70 others were injured,” said the Civil Protection in a communiqué, adding that the injured were “evacuated to Mustapha-Pacha and Nafissa Hamoud (former Parnet).”
The Civil Protection deployed specific protection assistance means in the case where those trapped in the wrecked train cars are freed, added the communiqué.
Director of Mustapha Pacha hospital told APS that the four latest injured amongst the 93 admitted following the accident, “left” in the afternoon.
Following this accident, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, accompanied by Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform Abdelmalek Boudiaf visited the scene to inquire about the causes of the accident and the health of the injured.
