Al-Nusra Front raised on Saturday an initiative for ceasefire with Syria Revolutionaries Front (SRF) - an alliance of armed opposition groups formed in December 2013 by the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
The unilateral ceasefire took force as of this afternoon, according to a joint statement by Al-Nusra and its ally Jund Al-Aqsa group.
It followed Al-Nusra's control of the SRF stronghold in Jabal Al-Zawiya, Idlib governorate, northwest Syria.
The statement accused the SRF of attacking Muslims and some Muslim mujahedeen militants in Jabal Al-Zawiya which prompted the latter to rout the SRF in the area.
It said its signatories approve the suggestion of local elders and wise men to set up a court for trying the case of Jamal Maarouf, an SRF commander.
It also suggested exchanging prisoners soon after Maarouf stands trial, and forming a joint mission to monitor the frontlines with the regime's forces least the latter could take advantage of the current dispute.
Earlier today Al-Qaeda-affiliate Al-Nusra and Jund Al-Aqsa took over the majority of the towns and villages in Jabal Al-Zawiya as dozens of fighters defected the SRF to Al-Nusra after a week-long battle.
In a related development, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SHOR) reported that the Kurdish People's Protection Units launched two attacks against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Halanj and Kobane-Aleppo highway on the rural outskirts of Ain Al-Arab (Kobane) city, north Syria, last night.
The Kurdish troops have made remarkable advances in the fighting against ISIL in the city since yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said the regular troops committed at least 14 massacres in Damascus eastern rural Ghouta in the last two months.
The massacres claimed 274 civilian lives , including 71 children and 40 women; they were committed mainly by the Syrian Air Force which fired more than 82 missiles on the area during this period, according to a SNHR report.
