Director of Social Protection Sector at the Arab Liberation Organization (ALO) Counselor Hamdy Ahmed pressed the need for consolidating Arab efforts to combat child labor and create an Arab environment supportive of child rights.
In statements on Wednesday, Counselor Hamdy said confronting child labor required cooperation and solidarity among all parties; foundations, government and business owners, in order to reach to tangible outcome.
He made it clear that combating child labor should be realized through two tracks; the first is protection of forced labor of children till the age of 13, the second is the labor legislations which should ban the work of children under this age and secure the compulsory education for them.
He praised the invitation of the Arab League to establish an organization or entity to coordinate Arab efforts to combat child labor, citing the Arab Labor Agreement No.18 for the year 1996 and other international conventions which protect children.
