Three Saudi children fell victims to a fire that broke out in the apartment they lived in with their family members in the suburb of Saad Al-Abdullah, a hospital official said on Sunday.
A four year old boy and his twin sisters, aged two, died on arrival at the Al-Jahra hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation, said the hospital director Dr. Shihab Al-Mehandi, in a statement to KUNA.
Colonel Khalil Al-Amir, a spokesman for the fire department, said the three children were extracted from the burning apartment in time to turn them over to paramedics who rushed them to the hospital where they were declared dead as a result of inhaling suffocating amounts of smoke.
The apartment sustained material damage, said the spokesman, noting that investigations were implemented to seek out the cause of the fire.
