The Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) has renewed support for UAE's sovereignty over its occupied islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, and to all measures taken by the UAE to regain sovereignty over the islands.
In the final statement issued at the end of its 23rd meeting in Cairo today, the APU called on Iran to translate its desire to improve relations with the Arab countries, into tangible steps by responding to the sincere and serious calls by the UAE to resolve the issue of its occupied islands through peaceful means, either by means of direct negotiations or by referral to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The IPU urged Arab parliaments to ensure that the issue of the UAE's occupied islands is brought in all contacts with Iran at international parliamentary events, and to affirm the need to resolve that issue, based on the fact that the islands are occupied Arab territories.
A delegation from the Federal National Council (FNC), headed by its Speaker Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, attended the IPU meetings.
The IPU also reiterated in the final statement that the Palestinian issue is the Arab nation's primary cause and demanded that all resolutions issued by its previous conferences and meetings be implemented.
The participants agreed to a proposal tabled by the IPU Chairman, Nabih Barri, to form a special parliamentary committee for providing support to the Palestinian people. The committee will be chaired by Marzouq Al Ghanim, former speaker of the Kuwaiti Umma Council.
