The Arab League Council urged the UN Security Council to lift the arms on Libya in order to empower its national army to restore stability Concluding its emergency meeting on the level of foreign ministers here on Thursday evening, the Council expressed profound concern over the continued fighting in Libya, stressing that political solution is the only way out of the crisis.
The ministers called for backing the legitimate institutions, notably the house of representatives and interim government, in their efforts to restore the country's unity and sovereignty, and tighten the noose around the terrorist groups.
They appreciated the efforts, being made by Libya neighbors, head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Bernardino Leon and the League's Special Envoy for Libya Nasser Al-Qudwah, to address the political and security crises of the country.
They welcomed the ongoing second round of dialogue among the Libyan parties at the UNSMIL HQ in Geneva, asking the negotiators to show flexibility in order to reach mutually-acceptable compromises.
They expressed condolences for the families of the Egyptian victims of the Libyan conflict, and strongly condemned the terrorist groups involved in killing or kidnapping the innocent nationals of Egypt in Libya.
They tasked the League's Secretary General Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi with following up the implementation of today's resolutions and reporting to the League's Council during its coming session.
The State of Qatar expressed reservation at the call for lifting the arms embargo and the identification of Libya's legitimate institutions.
