
Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU) subcommittee meetings kick-started in Khartoum on Tuesday, with the agenda including the election of a new secretary-general as a key topic.
Kuwaiti MP Faisal Al-shaye' said two candidates from Jordan and Oman are competing over the post of the AIPU secretary-general, noting that the current secretary-general's term will expire in June.
The next session of the AIPU will be held in the Lebanese capital of Beirut or Rabat, he told KUNA.
Recommendations are to be presented to the AIPU Executive Committee which will convene here on Thursday, the Kuwaiti member of parliament pointed out.
The Kuwaiti delegation, who arrived here earlier on Monday consists of MPs Saleh Ashour and Saif Al-Azmi, as well as National Assembly secretary general Allam Al-Kandari.
