Secretary General of the Arab League (AL) Nabil el Araby on Monday telephoned Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss recent developments on the Palestinian arena.
Araby said he will meet with UN and US senior officials during his coming visit to New York to call on the bodies concerned to implement US commitments to the Arab countries to work on putting an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict within a specific time frame.
A statement by the AL said the phone call also dealt with a decision by the AL Ministerial Council, calling for providing international protection for the Palestinian people.
The statement added that Araby's visit to New York would also discuss taking needed measures to stop Israeli settlement activities.
