Arab League Secretary-General Nabil el Araby called Thursday for an immediate Turkish withdrawal from Iraq.

Addressing the emergency meeting of the Arab foreign ministers, which was held to discuss the Turkish intervention in Iraq, Araby said that Turkey had to comply with the internationally-recognized borders, describing the Turkish move as a flagrant violation of the international law and the UN Charter.

The AL chief expressed hope that Turkey would immediately respond to the Iraqi demands, noting that the Turkish intervention not only threatens Iraq, but also the security of the whole Arab region.

Araby commended the Iraqi anti-terrorism efforts, calling for consolidating Arab efforts in support of Iraq in its war against terrorism.

The Arab foreign ministers will also discuss the issue of the Qatari citizens kidnapped in Iraq, he noted.

Araby also highlighted the importance of UAE's request to include an item on the agenda on Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

Such a topic necessitates a separate AL session to discuss the current status and future of Arab relations with regional powers, Araby said.

He also renewed the Arab League stance in support of the Palestinian cause, being the central cause of Arabs, urging for maintaining contacts and efforts until the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied lands to the 1967 borders.

The top Arab League diplomat announced his support to the UN Security Council resolution 2259 that was taken on Wednesday on the signing of Skhirat agreement among the Libyan political powers, asserting that he was looking forward to meeting with the new Libyan prime minister.

As for Syria, Araby urged the Syrian parties to implement the UN Security Council 2254 on ceasefire and launch negotiations towards the formation of a transitional power helping solve the Syrian crisis.
